Ukrainian drones strike ammunition depot in Russia’s Kostroma region, prompting partial evacuation

Drones struck the 100th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of Russia’s Defense Ministry overnight in the town of Neya in the Kostroma region, triggering explosions and a partial evacuation in nearby areas, according to Russian Telegram channels.

Telegram channels reported that an air-raid alert was declared in the Kostroma region at approximately 02:06 and lifted only at 11:18. Residents of Neya said they heard explosions throughout the night. The channels claimed the drones hit the GRAU arsenal located near the town.

Kostroma region governor Sergey Sitnikov said on his Telegram channel that drones targeted military and strategic facilities in the region overnight. He claimed Russian air defenses shot down several Ukrainian drones over the region and said “no destruction was allowed.” Later, he added that “drone debris damaged several facilities.”

Sitnikov said the regional emergency commission held an urgent meeting focused on the situation in Neya district. Messaging channels reported that evacuations were ordered in parts of Neya district bordering the arsenal. Sitnikov indirectly confirmed that, noting a temporary accommodation center for 1,200 residents was set up for southern Neya; he added police are patrolling to safeguard property.

Overnight, Ukraine’s Armed Forces carried out strikes on military and strategic facilities in several Russian regions. A petrochemical plant known as “SNKhZ” in Bashkortostan was also hit. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 129 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory during the night.

Earlier, a drone attack in Russia’s Lipetsk region ignited an oil depot that supplies fuel to the Russian military.

Separately, drones reportedly flew 700 kilometers to strike a strategic plant in the Russian city of Penza.
