As of early January 2026, Sweden has delivered 26 Archer 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine as part of its military aid, said Sweden’s embassy in Ukraine on Facebook.
According to the embassy, Ukrainian forces are actively deploying the Archers on the front lines against Russian occupying forces, leading to rapid barrel wear. In mid-2025, Stockholm supplied 10 spare barrels to Ukraine to keep the systems in service.
The embassy said Ukrainian troops rate the Swedish systems highly. Key advantages include modern digital systems, the ability to rapidly change firing positions, high accuracy and the use of standard international ammunition.
Archer systems entered service with Ukraine in 2022 and are fielded by various units, including the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade.
Sweden’s army adopted Archer in 2013. The system mounts a 155mm FH77 howitzer on a Volvo A30D 6×6 articulated hauler. It is powered by a 340 hp diesel engine and can reach speeds up to 65 km/h.
The wheeled Archer has a firing range of 30 to 50 km, depending on the ammunition. Precision-guided Excalibur rounds can strike targets at up to 50 km.
The vehicle features an armored cab, protecting the crew from small-arms fire and shell and mine fragments - standard protection for wheeled systems of this type.
