More than 20 Russian infantry troops tried to use weather conditions to move covertly toward Ukrainian positions north of Pokrovsk, but Ukrainian paratroopers detected them in time and opened fire, according to Ukraine’s 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces, which released video of the repelled attack and the final stage of destroying the assault group.
The unit said coordinated actions allowed Ukrainian forces to inflict heavy fire on the assault group. The attackers then lost the ability to continue their advance and hid in private homes and basements.
During subsequent reconnaissance patrols, elements of the 25th Separate Airborne Sicheslav Brigade eliminated the Russian troops, the corps said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian military reported 173 combat engagements on the front line over the past day.
Ukrainian military command also reported Russian losses of 1,130 personnel in that period.
