Russia dismisses two generals after failed assaults on the Dobropillya axis

Russia’s occupation forces have dismissed Lt. Gen. Sukhrab Akhmedov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy for coastal and ground forces. He was awarded the title “Hero of Russia” in the summer of 2025. The announcement was made by the Azov 1st Corps of Ukraine’s National Guard, and was also reported by Hromadske.

Akhmedov led a large naval infantry grouping - two divisions, two brigades and a regiment—fighting Ukraine’s Defense Forces on the Dobropillya axis, in the sector held by the Azov 1st Corps.

Earlier, Lt. Gen. Sergei Milchakov, commander of Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army and also a “Hero of Russia,” was relieved of duty. Units under his command likewise took part in attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses in this area.

Both generals were removed for “lack of results,” according to the reports. Large-scale infantry and mechanized assaults involving dozens of armored vehicles failed to deliver an operational breakthrough and did not breach Ukrainian positions, resulting instead in significant personnel and equipment losses.

Since August of last year, when the Azov 1st Corps took up a designated defensive sector on the Dobropillya axis, the Russians have lost nearly 23,000 troops killed and wounded, the unit said. Heavy armor losses totaled about 100 tanks and 263 armored fighting vehicles, according to the military.
