Lithuania charges six foreign nationals in alleged GRU-linked plot against defense supplier aiding Ukraine

Lithuania has sent to court the case of six foreign nationals accused of plotting a terrorist attack against a private defense supplier aiding Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office said Friday, according to LRT.

Prosecutors say the alleged attempt targeted UAB TVC Solutions in the city of Šiauliai in September 2024. Artūras Urbelis, chief prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department, said the indictment was filed with the Šiauliai District Court on January 14.

The six defendants are suspected of participating in a terrorist group, attempting to carry out a terrorist act, and financing terrorist activity. According to Urbelis, they include a Spanish citizen, a dual Spanish-Colombian national, and citizens of Colombia, Cuba, Russia, and Belarus.

Prosecutors said the intended targets were the company’s infrastructure and products, including mobile radio-frequency spectrum analysis stations destined for Ukraine’s armed forces.

Investigations continue into four additional suspects. One was detained in Colombia on an international warrant and is undergoing extradition proceedings to Lithuania. International arrest warrants have been issued for three others.

Authorities said the group’s activities may have been coordinated from Russia by Cuban and Colombian citizens linked to Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU. Based on the pretrial probe, there are grounds to believe the attempted sabotage in Šiauliai was carried out on the GRU’s orders and in its interests.

The most serious charge - participation in an organized terrorist group - carries a prison term of five to 15 years.
