UK delivers 350 ASRAAM air-to-air missiles to Ukraine as part of record £4.5 billion aid package

Britain has provided Ukraine with 350 ASRAAM air-to-air missiles in 2025, part of a record £4.5 billion in total UK assistance to Kyiv this year, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the £70 million for the ASRAAM purchase was routed through the G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) mechanism. ERA provides loans to Ukraine that are repaid using profits generated by frozen Russian sovereign assets. In 2024–2025, Kyiv received nearly $28 billion in financing from G7 countries and the European Union under ERA.

Last year, the UK also delivered two new Gravehawk air-defense systems to Ukraine, with Denmark co-financing the project. Another 16 Gravehawk systems are expected to enter Ukrainian service in 2026.

Overall, the UK contributed £2.26 billion to ERA last year. London’s total support for Kyiv in 2025 stands at £4.5 billion, the largest annual package the UK has provided to Ukraine.

ASRAAM is a British short-range air-to-air missile that can also be deployed from ground platforms. It uses an imaging infrared seeker with a CCD array that forms an infrared image of the target. The missile entered UK service in 2002, and media reports say it took about 25 years to develop.

The missile is 2.9 meters long, 166 mm in diameter, and weighs 88 kg. Its warhead weighs 10 kg. Its range is about 25 km, though some sources put it at around 50 km. When launched from ground platforms, the range is about 10 km.

Earlier, the Ukraine–NATO Council approved additional air-defense missiles for Ukraine.
