A drone attack has been reported in Russia’s Astrakhan region on Kapustin Yar, one of the country’s main test ranges for missile weapons.
Ukrainian UAVs once again reached the Kapustin Yar range in Astrakhan region, from which, among other things, medium-range ballistic missiles (MRBMs) from the Oreshnik system are launched, reports Militarnyi, citing information from Russian monitoring channels.
One Russian channel reported aerial targets detected over the range area, after which air defenses engaged.
Beyond Oreshnik launches, the site regularly hosts tests of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles of various classes, surface-to-air systems and air-defense components, military electronics, and navigation equipment for missile programs.
The facility is traditionally used to validate new weapons before they enter combat duty.
The previous documented UAV attack on Kapustin Yar took place in the summer of 2024. At the time, Russian sources said drones reached the range and damaged several buildings.
Videos posted online showed strike drones hitting an assembly-and-test building—one of the key infrastructure facilities where missile hardware is assembled and prepared.
Overall, pro-war Russian channels on Saturday reported a drone-threat corridor stretching from Astrakhan region to Kalmykia.
