Ukraine downs 15 missiles and 357 drones in overnight mass attack centered on Kyiv

Overnight into Saturday, Russian forces launched 21 missiles and 375 drones of various types at Ukraine. Air defense and electronic warfare (EW) units intercepted or suppressed most of the incoming targets, Ukraine’s Air Force said on January 24.

In total, radio-technical troops detected 396 aerial threats:

- 2 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles (launch area: the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea);

- 12 Kh-22/Kh-32 cruise missiles (from the airspace of Russia’s Bryansk region);

- 6 Iskander-M/S-300 ballistic missiles (launch areas: Russia’s Bryansk region; the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea);

- 1 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missile (from the airspace of Russia’s Kursk region);

- 375 attack UAVs - Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types - launched from Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Shatalovo, Bryansk in Russia, and the temporarily occupied Donetsk; about 250 of them were “Shaheds.”

The aerial attack was countered by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, EW and drone units, and mobile fire groups.

As of 9:00 a.m., air defenses had destroyed or suppressed 372 targets — 15 missiles and 357 drones of various types:

- 9 Kh-22/Kh-32 cruise missiles;

- 5 Iskander-M/S-300 ballistic missiles;

- 1 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missile;

- 357 attack drones of various types.

There were confirmed impacts from two missiles and 18 attack drones across 17 locations, with debris falling in 12 additional places. Information on four missiles is still being clarified.

The military warned the attack was ongoing, with several enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace, and urged the public to follow safety guidelines.

In Kyiv, one person was killed and four were injured in the Russian strike.

Later, the capital reported disruptions to electricity, heating and water supplies. Train service was changed on the Red and Green metro lines.

In a massive attack on Kharkiv, 19 people were injured, with damage and fires reported.
