On January 25, 2026, Nuuk experienced a power outage caused by strong winds in Buksefjorden that resulted in a line fault on the transmission line. The fault was confirmed to be outside the fjord span. Efforts were underway to restore power supply to the city from the hydropower plant, with updates reporting gradual restoration of electricity reaching approximately 75% by 03:00 UTC and about 90% by 03:45 UTC. The full supply of electricity, water, and heat was eventually restored by 04:30 UTC. Residents were advised to switch off electric appliances and stoves during the outage to avoid overloading motor systems as power was gradually returned. Nukissiorfiit workers coordinated closely to restore the supply as quickly as possible.
