Ukraine: Russian troops are pulling back from some positions in Kherson region

On the Kherson axis, Russian forces are regrouping and have been forced to abandon some positions.

Russian troops have begun retreating from select positions in Ukraine’s Kherson region under pressure from the country’s Defense Forces, according to Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Defense Forces of the South, in comments to Ukrinform.

Voloshyn said Ukrainian intelligence observed the Russian troops leaving positions on Oleksiivskyi Island. He attributed the move to active operations by Ukrainian units and low morale among Russian troops stationed there. He added that after the withdrawal, Russian forces were unable to reestablish observation posts on the island.

“On Oleksiivskyi Island, our intelligence is recording the abandonment of positions. This happened as a result of active actions by Ukraine’s Defense Forces and the low moral and psychological state of the servicemen,” Voloshyn said.

Additionally, according to Ukrainian officials, Russia has begun regrouping its forces in the south. Some units from the Kherson axis, including airborne troops, are being redeployed to the Orikhiv sector, where they are expected to sustain the tempo of assault operations.
