Amid ongoing crisis and security concerns, Latvia is expanding cooperation with hunters by training about 500 of them in using firearms and ammunition to shoot down drones especially during nighttime. This plan aims to increase civil defense capabilities by involving hunters who are experienced with firearms. Latvia’s State Forests and National Armed Forces support this initiative, with the defense minister and hunters emphasizing the importance of strengthening both civilian and national defense against drones and other threats. This training is part of broader efforts including military exercises at the ‘Namejs’ training center. Hunters will be taught how to detect and intercept drones potentially used for espionage or hostile activities. The initiative addresses the need for additional civil defense resources as Latvian military continues to prepare for security challenges amid regional tensions.
