Ukraine to receive Mirage 2000-5 jets and air-defense missiles in new French aid package

Ukraine is set to receive fighter jets and air-defense missiles as part of a new military aid package from France. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said the country expects additional Mirage 2000-5 aircraft soon, a move he said will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air capabilities. He spoke to the journalists after talks with French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin on Tuesday evening, January 27.

The discussions focused on deepening military cooperation. Ukraine expects deliveries of ammunition for SAMP/T and Crotale air-defense systems, as well as longer-range capabilities. France is ready to provide additional missiles quickly, Fedorov said, thanking Paris for the expedited support.

The meeting also addressed efforts to counter Russia’s “shadow fleet.” Fedorov emphasized the need to curb Russia’s resources, calling it critical to limiting Moscow’s financial capacity to sustain the war.

Fedorov invited Catherine Vautrin to visit Ukraine and proposed expanding cooperation, including joint data-sharing and analytics.
