Ukraine’s President said that despite global diplomatic efforts, Russia continues to strike Ukrainian cities and is preparing a new large-scale attack. He also confirmed that Kyiv faces a difficult situation, especially with heating.
“We know the Russians are preparing a new strike. Intelligence is providing information about this. America, Europe - all our partners - need to understand how this discredits diplomatic talks. Every one of Russia’s strikes does,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address.
The president said he is holding talks on the assistance Ukraine needs most right now and spoke today with French President Emmanuel Macron. He stressed that the efforts of all partners are crucial.
“We count on Europe’s support. It’s important that leaders and states do not stay silent about what is happening. Do not stay silent about the fact that the Russians are still trying to inflict as much pain as possible on Ukrainians, regardless of any diplomacy,” Zelensky said.
He added that with so many diplomatic efforts to end the war — with Americans talking to the Russians and Europeans trying as well - diplomacy must carry real weight for people.
“When Russian strikes continue, when assaults continue, it’s hard for people to feel that diplomacy is constructive and can deliver results. Everyone who truly wants peace must think about how to ensure the Russians prepare not for new mass attacks, but for ending the war. Peace has the power to make this happen. We just need to use that power for peace. Absolutely. Thank you to everyone who sees the situation this way,” the president said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there is progress on peace talks. In particular, the number of unresolved issues has been reduced to one - territory.
