Kremlin says Trump asked Putin to halt Kyiv strikes until February 1

US President Donald Trump made a personal request to Russian president Vladimir Putin to refrain from striking Kyiv until February 1, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a Friday briefing.

“Indeed, President Trump made a personal request to President Putin to refrain for a week — until February 1 - from carrying out strikes on Kyiv in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations,” Peskov said.

Asked whether February 1 itself is included in the timeframe Trump requested, Peskov replied: “Until February 1.”

He declined to say whether Putin agreed to Trump’s request or whether the pause would apply to all strikes or only to attacks on energy infrastructure.

“I have nothing to add on the details beyond what has already been said. I want to emphasize again that this is about creating favorable conditions for talks,” Peskov said.

On the evening of January 29, Trump unexpectedly said he had reached an understanding with Putin for a one-week halt to shelling Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities due to severe cold.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed an “energy truce” with Russia. And today he issued a new statement regarding the truce.
