Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that overnight into Friday, January 30, there were no strikes on power infrastructure, though a day earlier energy facilities in several regions were damaged by shelling. Overall, he said, there is a shift in the Russia’s tactics: the Russian army is increasingly targeting logistics and civilian businesses.
Zelensky noted that drone attacks on residential areas in cities continue. In addition, a ballistic missile was used against Kharkiv region, damaging warehouses at a civilian production facility owned by a U.S. company.
He paid special attention to the situation in Donetsk region and the Cherkasy region. There, he said, much more needs to be done to ensure people’s basic needs, especially in homes with electric heating.
Additional resources are being brought in for Kyiv right now: as of the morning, 378 apartment buildings remained without heating. The president also received reports on the situation in Kyiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr regions.
Zelensky emphasized that specific tasks have been assigned to the defense minister and the commander of Ukraine’s Air Force to strengthen protection against drones along the line between Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. He said the priority remains protecting energy infrastructure, logistics and civilian businesses to minimize the impact of strikes on civilians.
