Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi under full Ukrainian control as infiltrating Russian groups are cleared out

The situation in the town of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region - declared captured by Russia on January 27 - remains fully under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, the Ukrainian outlet DeepState said Saturday, January 31, on its Telegram channel.

Analysts say this is corroborated by daily videos from a Ukrainian serviceman who moves calmly through the town center without protective gear - body armor, a helmet or even a hat.

“As for Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi - the town is under the full control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. In recent days, daily videos from a Ukrainian serviceman have been good proof. He’s not only without a flak jacket and helmet, he’s also without a hat, walking through the center of the settlement,” the statement said.

DeepState reports that small groups of Russian troops sometimes enter the settlement, attempting to cross the railway from the Pishchane area. These incursions are being stopped through clearing operations; they occur fairly often but are necessary to prevent a further buildup of enemy forces.

At the same time, the situation in the village of Petropavlivka, east of Kupyansk, remains unclear. On DeepState maps as of January 29, the “gray zone” had nearly reached the settlement.

On January 27, Russia’s General Staff claimed to have seized Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi.
