Zelensky suggested he would likely seek the presidency again, speaking to Czech journalists.
He emphasized that his final decision depends on how the Russia-Ukraine war concludes.
He also admitted he sometimes thinks about running again.
On December 9, US President Donald Trump said Ukraine should hold elections because there has not been one “for a long time.”
The American President argues that Ukrainian authorities are “using the war” to delay the re-election of the president and parliament.
Zelensky responded to Trump’s calls to hold elections in Ukraine by saying, “I’m always ready.”
On December 15, Zelensky instructed lawmakers to prepare a bill enabling elections under martial law.
In January 2025, Zelensky said he was ready to hold a presidential election in the country. He stressed that a ceasefire and security guarantees from Ukraine’s partners are necessary.
Earlier, Zelensky told foreign journalists he is tired of the war. He said he is ready to hand over his office to another politician chosen by Ukrainians, but given the ongoing fighting, he believes he is currently the most experienced person for the job.
