Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced dissatisfaction with the Air Force’s performance in several regions and ordered immediate steps to boost the effectiveness of air defenses. He also heard updates on logistics, energy and civilian support.
In a Telegram post, Zelensky said his daily conference call reviewed the situation in Kyiv and the surrounding region; the Kharkiv and Poltava regions; Kropyvnytskyi and Kirovohrad region; Vinnytsia region; Dnipropetrovsk region; Zaporizhzhia; and border communities near the front lines.
“I consider the Air Force’s work in some regions of Ukraine unsatisfactory, and we discussed with the Air Force commander and the defense minister which decisions must be implemented immediately to more effectively shoot down ‘Shaheds,’” he said.
The head of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) briefed Zelensky on the impact of Russian strikes on logistics, saying rail infrastructure is being hit daily and that the number of attacks rose significantly in January.
According to the Air Force, from the evening of February 5 into the morning of February 6, Russia launched 328 attack drones of various types across Ukraine, including “Shahed,” “Gerbera,” “Italmas” and other drones that may have been launched from temporarily occupied Donetsk.
About 200 of them were Shaheds. Russia also used two Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles and five Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles.
Ukrainian aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare teams, drone units and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces responded in the north, south, east and central regions of the country.
By 12:30 p.m. local time, preliminary data indicated Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed or suppressed 297 enemy drones. Thanks to active defensive measures, Russian missiles did not reach their intended targets. However, 22 strike drones hit 14 locations, and debris fell at two additional sites.
On the morning of February 6, Russian forces struck garage cooperatives on the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia, wounding one person and damaging a dog shelter, local officials said.
