Zelensky urges daily deliveries of air defense missiles after Russian missile strikes on Kyiv region

On Sunday, February 8, Russian forces again launched ballistic strikes on the Kyiv region. Ukraine’s air defenses need a steady daily supply of interceptors to take down incoming threats, the president emphasized.

Every one of Ukraine’s partners must recognize their capacity to support the country and save lives, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address.

“Air-defense missiles are needed every day. Protection against Russian ballistic missiles is needed every day,” the head of state said.

He noted that Russian forces once again targeted the Kyiv region with ballistic missiles.

Zelensky stressed that under such strikes and amid a war like this, no country in the world should be left to stand alone without assistance.

He added that the coming weeks will be active in engagement with Ukraine’s partners, expressing hope for tangible results.

As a reminder, on Sunday, February 8, the city of Vasylkiv in the Kyiv region was hit twice by Russian ballistic missiles. Powerful explosions were heard in the area.

Earlier, Yuriy Ihnat, head of communications for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that during a mass missile attack on Ukraine, Patriot systems were unable to counter ballistic strikes due to a shortage of air-defense missiles. Stocks are being depleted faster than aid is arriving from partners.

Focus also reported that on February 7, Russian forces carried out a massive strike on the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. First came Kalibr cruise missiles, followed by dozens of Shahed drones.

By early morning, the occupiers launched another missile attack on Ukraine, firing weapons from long-range strategic aircraft. Explosions were reported, in particular, in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Rivne regions.
