In the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, Russia’s Volgograd region came under attack by Ukrainian drones, and 49 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted over the area, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Volgograd region governor Andrey Bocharov said targets included energy and civilian infrastructure. “In Volzhsky, an apartment at 75 Karbyshev Street was damaged and a UAV fell on the grounds of the ‘Yagodka’ kindergarten, as well as a fire on the grounds of a plant in southern Volgograd,” the governor said. There were no casualties, he added.
The outlet “Novosti Volgograda” reported that drone debris sparked a fire on the grounds of one of the city’s plants. Residents also reported a large fire in the industrial area.
The open-source intelligence channel Dnipro OSINT (Harbuz) reported an attack on the LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery in Volgograd. In recent hours, dozens of drones struck the site, with preliminary reports indicating damage to fuel and lubricants storage tanks (coordinates: 48.490911, 44.624078).
Damage has periodically forced the refinery to halt operations.
In 2024, the Volgograd refinery processed 13.7 million tons of crude, accounting for 5.1% of Russia’s total oil refining, Reuters reported.
