UK commits £150 million to PURL for U.S. weapons for Ukraine

The United Kingdom is allocating £150 million (€172 million) to purchase U.S. weapons for Ukraine under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced Wednesday, according to Politico and Reuters.

“I’m pleased to confirm the United Kingdom is allocating £150 million to the PURL initiative,” Healey said, as quoted by Politico. “Together we must provide Ukraine with the critical air defenses it needs to repel Putin’s fierce onslaught.”

On Tuesday, February 10, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said during an online briefing that Washington expects NATO allies to take on new commitments to procure weapons for Ukraine under PURL at the upcoming meeting of defense ministers.

The program was launched in the summer of 2025 at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump and is coordinated by NATO. According to Ukrainian authorities, contributions to PURL totaled $4.3 billion in 2025, with nearly $1.5 billion in December alone.

Politico estimates that in 2025 Ukraine’s allies allocated €5 billion to PURL. In early February, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte expressed “absolute confidence” that allies could raise another €15 billion in 2026.

NATO defense ministers will meet on February 12 in Brussels. Defense chiefs from all 32 member states are expected to attend, along with Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Sources cited by Reuters say the agenda will include not only purchases of U.S. weapons for Ukraine but also a broader discussion of a more active European role in ensuring its own security.
