The Latvian parliament’s Committee on Citizenship, Migration and Social Affairs scheduled a session on 19 February 2026 to discuss revocation of citizenship for former MP Andrejs Mamikin. Mamikin fled to Russia and was convicted of crimes including treason and propaganda against Latvia, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office. The case relates to Mamikin’s support of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and dissemination of pro-Kremlin propaganda. Mamikin previously served in the 12th Saeima, was a member of the Harmony party, and was found guilty in 2024 of violating national security laws. Legal experts and lawmakers commented on procedural and legal bases for the revocation. The Saeima move marks an official state response to Mamikin’s actions undermining Latvian sovereignty and security.
