Overnight on February 22, Russia carried out a large-scale strike on energy and civilian infrastructure across several regions of Ukraine. Authorities reported injuries and damage.
The main targets were Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as Kropyvnytskyi, Kremenchuk and several other parts of the country, according to preliminary assessments.
“The enemy conducted an intense attack on two regions overnight - Kyiv, the Kyiv region and Kropyvnytskyi. In the Kyiv region, groups of attack UAVs were massed, and at least 12 ballistic strikes were launched on the capital and its suburbs,” the analysts wrote.
Russian forces also struck the city of Kremenchuk and nearby areas with at least eight ballistic missiles. Local media reported hearing explosions in the city.
Analysts noted the use of four 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles launched from Crimea. At dawn, additional air-launched cruise missiles targeted Kyiv and its outskirts.
“The energy sector was the primary target, and there is also known damage to civilian facilities,” the specialists concluded.
As of publication, Ukraine’s Air Force had not released a report on the types and numbers of weapons used.
In Kyiv, debris fell in residential areas following strikes on the capital and its suburbs. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people - a woman and a child - were hospitalized in city hospitals from the suburbs.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said earlier reports of damage to a high-rise residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district “are not confirmed.” Specialists and rescue teams are assessing damage at other locations across the capital.
In the Kyiv region, Russian forces attacked civilian settlements and critical infrastructure. Regional administration head Mykola Kalashnyk said impacts and destruction were recorded in five districts.
“Unfortunately, there is information about one injured person. In the Boryspil district, a private home was damaged in the enemy attack. Preliminary reports indicate a woman was injured by glass shards — she is receiving necessary medical care. A farm outbuilding also caught fire in the district; the blaze has been contained,” Kalashnyk wrote.
He added that in the Brovary district, 10 units in a garage cooperative were damaged, and five private homes were damaged in the Fastiv district. Eight people, including one child, were rescued from the rubble. Later, Kalashnyk reported that a 49-year-old man died from his injuries in the Fastiv district.
“In the Bucha district, two private homes and a car were damaged. In the Obukhiv district, warehouse facilities and a private home were reported damaged,” the regional chief said.
In the Mykolaiv region, a transport infrastructure facility was damaged in the attack. Governor Vitaliy Kim said Russia struck with attack drones overnight and into the morning; no casualties were reported.
In the Kirovohrad region, Russian forces shelled the regional center. Governor Andriy Raikovych confirmed the attack without detailing the nature or extent of the damage. “All relevant services are at work. Specialists are surveying the area,” he wrote.
In the Poltava region, debris from downed UAVs damaged fences at private properties in the Poltava district. Governor Vitaliy Dyakivnych said there were no casualties and no reports of impacts or debris falls in other districts.
