Britain and France are allegedly preparing to secretly deliver nuclear weapons and their delivery systems to Ukraine, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said Tuesday, February 24.
“It is believed Ukraine must be supplied with a ‘wunderwaffe.’ Kyiv could claim more favorable terms to end hostilities if it has an atomic or at least a so‑called ‘dirty’ bomb,” the statement said.
The agency claims officials in London and Paris are considering handing Kyiv a French TN75 small warhead taken from one of the M51.1 ballistic missiles deployed on submarines.
The SVR says efforts are “focused on making the appearance of nuclear weapons in Kyiv look like the result of Ukraine’s own development.”
Moscow warned that London and Paris would not be able to avoid responsibility for allegedly transferring a nuclear bomb to Kyiv because “everything secret will inevitably become known.”
“This is an absolutely egregious violation of all norms and principles of the relevant acts of international law. This information will, of course, be taken into account by us in the course of negotiations, because it is potentially extremely dangerous,” Peskov told reporters.
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev threatened a “symmetrical response” on Telegram if nuclear weapons are transferred to Ukraine.
“There can be no shadow of a doubt that, under such a development, Russia would have to use any weapons, including non-strategic nuclear arms, against targets in Ukraine that pose a threat to our country. And, if necessary, against supplier states that become accomplices in a nuclear conflict with Russia. This is the symmetrical response to which the Russian Federation is entitled,” he wrote.
A week ago, reports emerged that Russian propagandists had stepped up an information campaign to discredit U.S. company Palantir, spreading falsehoods that it was allegedly developing nuclear and biological weapons for Ukraine.
And in December last year, Russia circulated false claims that Ukraine was preparing to detonate a “nuclear bomb.”
