Zelensky says southern counteroffensive predates Russian Starlink cutoff and is unrelated

Ukraine’s southern push by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was planned before Russian access to Starlink satellite communications was cut, President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters, according to Novosti.Live.

He stressed the two developments are not connected.

“Let’s look at this step by step. The decision on Starlink is certainly positive and will be helpful. But at the same time I want to thank our military — the operation in the south, where (400 sq. km of territory — ed.) was liberated, began a month before the Starlink decision. So these are two independent things, but both should be viewed positively,” Zelensky said.

Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces have launched an operation in the south, with current activity focused on the Oleksandrivske direction spanning parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, Focus reported.

Over the pas month, Ukrainian Forces have regained control of more than 300 square kilometers in the Hulyaipole area and neighboring sectors of Zaporizhzhia region.
