French-supplied Mirage-2000 fighter jets have begun flying combat missions along the front line, according to footage shared by pilots from Ukraine’s Air Force. In the video clip, a jet roars over the person filming and releases two munitions toward Russian positions. Analysts say the aircraft and guided bombs from France could give Ukraine an edge.
The Mirage-2000s have been operating on multiple parts of the front, but no video of their use had appeared online until now, the Air Force-linked Telegram channel “Soniahnyk” said. The channel did not disclose the details of the mission or the weapons employed. However, the defense outlet “Militarnyi” reported the jet likely released two AASM Hammer glide bombs.
The footage surfaced on February 27, though the timing and exact location of the flight were not specified. “True to their name, [Mirage-2000s] are seen nowhere but engaged everywhere and always. We thank France for its steadfast support of our military and for providing modern, high-quality weapons,” the post said.
Ukraine received the French multirole Mirage-2000 under arrangements with President Emmanuel Macron. In early 2025, the Air Force took delivery of three aircraft (one was later lost), with two more expected in 2026. The Mirage-2000 can reach Mach 2.2, operate up to 17 km in altitude, detect targets at roughly 100 km with its Thomson-CSF RDY radar, and carry weapons on nine hardpoints.
Among the aircraft’s weapons are AASM Hammer precision glide bombs, which “Militarnyi” says may have been used in the new footage. The bombs feature warheads of 250 to 1,000 kg, a release range of about 75 km, accuracy down to 10 meters, and INS/GPS/laser guidance. Ukraine began receiving AASM Hammers in 2024, integrating them on modified MiG-29s as well as F-16s later delivered by partners. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry says it is deepening cooperation with France on AASM supplies. Deliveries are slated at roughly 60 per month in 2025, with similar plans for 2026; Paris also aims to boost production and make “record” shipments.
In a November 2025 report, a Ukrainian pilot described using the fighter to shoot down cruise missiles during Russian air raids, claiming six Kh-101 kills and a 98% effectiveness rate, according to the outlet.
On February 26, separate footage showed an An-28 aircraft used by Ukraine to down “Shahed” drones.
