Ukrainian drones reportedly damage at least five Russian warships in Novorossiysk

At least five Russian Navy vessels were damaged in an overnight drone attack on Novorossiysk from March 1 to 2, the Telegram channel “Dossier Shpiona” reported.

The anti-submarine ships Yeysk and Kasimov were among those struck, according to the channel. The minesweeper Valentin Pikul reportedly sustained significant damage. The channel did not name the other two vessels hit in the UAV attack.

The Ukrainian OSINT project Exilenova+ earlier on March 2 published an image of a pier at the Port of Novorossiysk showing a stain “in the area of Project 1124 ‘Albatros’ ships.” That project includes the already mentioned Yeysk and Kasimov.

“Dossier Shpiona” said three service members were killed and 16 injured.

Exilenova+ has also released more detailed satellite imagery of the port. The images suggest that at least six ships were in port at the time of the strike. In addition to those already listed, they include the minesweeper Ivan Golubets and the frigates Admiral Makarov and Admiral Essen.

Local authorities have not commented on the reports. A fire broke out at the Sheskharis oil terminal on the evening of March 1 following an attack by maritime and aerial drones. Officials said the blaze at the fuel terminal was extinguished on the afternoon of March 2. Seven people were reported injured.

The Sheskharis oil terminal - one of the largest in southern Russia - is owned by a subsidiary of Transneft. It is the endpoint of the company’s main oil pipelines and handles part of Russia’s Urals crude exports.
