Russia attempts Kharkiv border breach as Ukraine repels multiple assaults

Russian forces attempted to break through Ukraine’s state border in Kharkiv region over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s Joint Forces press service said Wednesday, March 4.

“In the South Slobozhansky direction, the enemy tried to breach the State Border of Ukraine and attack our positions toward Zybine and Krugle. Our units inflicted fire damage on the occupiers’ assault groups,” the statement said.

Ukraine added that on the Velykyi Burluk axis, Russian troops continue to build up forces to resume offensive operations.

On the Kupiansk axis, Russian units unsuccessfully tried to punch through defenses toward Petropavlivka, Novoplatonivka and Kuryliivka, according to the statement.

On the Lyman axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled assault actions toward Shyykivka, Stavky, Drobysheve and Lyman.

“In total, Joint Forces units neutralized 17 attacks by the occupiers over the past day,” the military added.

Separately, Ukraine’s General Staff recorded 144 combat engagements on March 3, with the heaviest Russian attacks around the Pokrovsk and Hulyaipole sectors.

Ukraine also said Russia lost nearly 1,000 soldiers killed and wounded on Tuesday, with overall Russian losses approaching 1.3 million, according to Kyiv’s estimates.
