U.S. asks Ukraine for help countering Shahed drones in the Middle East, Zelensky says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States has asked Kyiv to provide support to defend against Shahed-type attack drones in the Middle East. Ukraine plans to assist partners by supplying necessary equipment and deploying Ukrainian specialists.

Zelensky said on his Telegram channel that Kyiv received an official request from the United States. The request concerns assistance in countering Shahed-type attack drones in the Middle East, in the context of the United States and Israel’s war against Iran. According to the president, Ukraine is ready to help protect its allies and has already issued orders to organize the support.

“We received a request from the United States for specific support in defending against Shahed drones in the Middle East region. I ordered the provision of the necessary assets and the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee the required security. Ukraine helps partners who help our security and the protection of our people’s lives. Glory to Ukraine!” Zelensky said.

The president emphasized that Ukraine is ready to share its experience countering attack drones, gained during the full-scale war with Russia. Kyiv also plans to provide technical means and send specialists capable of helping the United States defend against Iranian unmanned systems.

Ukraine’s Salyut interceptor drone has already been tested in combat conditions. It can catch up to and destroy Russian Shahed kamikaze drones.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Forces began using a new domestically produced strike drone called “Ptashka.” The system features a fiber-optic control channel and can carry out missions at nearly 50 kilometers - a record range for drones of its class.

US President Donald Trump praised his own actions related to the operation against Iran while sharply criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Even as the situation around Iran remains in the international spotlight, Trump said talks on the war in Ukraine are continuing and again expressed dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian leader’s actions, demanding that he sign a peace agreement.
