Ukraine says it hit Russian Shahed drone base near Donetsk airport with ATACMS and SCALP missiles

Ukraine’s General Staff says Ukraine has carried out a series of successful operations aimed at degrading Russia’s military capabilities.

Ukrainian forces launched a missile strike on a key Russian military facility in the Donetsk area. According to the General Staff, the target was Russian infrastructure near Donetsk airport that served as a storage and launch base for Shahed-type attack drones.

The military said ATACMS and SCALP missiles were used.

Units from the Ground Forces’ rocket and artillery troops, in coordination with the Air Force, took part in the operation. The strike sparked a large fire and triggered secondary explosions of ammunition, according to the statement.

The General Staff said the destroyed site had been used by Russian forces to store, prepare and launch “kamikaze” drones employed in regular attacks on Ukrainian cities, adding the strike should reduce Russia’s drone capabilities.

Beyond the operation near Donetsk airport, Ukrainian forces conducted several additional strikes on Russian positions. A UAV control center was hit near the settlement of Dibrova in Russian-occupied Luhansk region.

Ukrainian troops also struck a command-and-observation post of occupation units near Kruhliakivka in the temporarily occupied part of Kharkiv region.

In addition, Ukraine targeted Russian artillery positions in the areas of Tavilzhanka, Voskresenka and Novopavlivka. Troop concentrations came under fire near Novohryhorivka, Zheleznodorozhnoye, Torske and Sopich.

The General Staff said such precision strikes are gradually eroding Russia’s combat power. Destroying depots, command posts and artillery positions complicates Russian units’ coordination and preparation for future offensive actions.
